The country locks down.
We start to do bin bag fashion shows and dress up nights and murder mystery dinners
and more than anything we appreciate the fact we are each other’s best friends.
Summer comes and goes in a glare of sunshine, shorts, bandanas and picnics in the woods
with our friends.
We set up a small swimming pool in the garden and have water fights in the front garden every
other day.
Life isn’t simple anymore, but we make it work.
I start to write again.
My twin creates.
My mum does what she does best and cares for anyone who needs it.
We get more bad news.
We support the best we can.
I start a new course.
My twin starts university.
He goes back to school.
We’re worried but things are going back to normal.
At least, that’s what we hope.
We don’t have to social distance with everyone as much and shops open again.
My brother gets a new job.
It’s all starting to look good again.
Things go up and down and now it’s Christmas and we are putting up the tree
and buying too many presents.
We need this.
The tree almost falls over from presents and the stockings are so full they are overflowing.
We make teas and coffees and curl up in matching pyjamas and open presents while listening to Last Christmas.
We play cards against humanity, and I don’t change out of my pyjamas but that’s okay.
Chocolate pudding and ice cream and Christmas pudding
Everyone is drinking
Except for mum and me
We drink Diet Coke and laugh.
We don’t want it to end.
There is something so comforting about Christmas. Always has been. Always will be.
