Around the World in 80 Days: Week Four

around the world in 80 days

This week we finished up Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days.  I’d like to say we finished strong, but to be honest we were rather distracted by the up and coming trip to London.  That said, I wanted to get this post up so I could at least say we had finished.  Not with any strength, but not too weakly either.  We have finished our scrap book and are so happy with the end product:

This will be on display during our Steam Punk Victorian Christmas Party we will be hosting in December, during which time the children will be giving a presentation on their projects this term.

This week we learnt all about:

  • San Francisco Bay:dsc_0308
  • The Transcontinental Railway:dsc_0309
  • The Route Fogg took from San Francisco Bay to New York City:dsc_0311
  • The Sioux Indians:dsc_0312 dsc_0313
  • The Industrial Revolution:ds123

The children researched and gave presentations on the Industrial Revolution, the Sioux Indians and the Transcontinental Railway:

They finished off their reading of whatever Jules Verne book they were reading with Charlotte finishing up all of them, whilst Lillie and Thomas managed three.  Thomas plans to continue reading them though as he has quite enjoyed them (they are science fiction, after all):

Lillie hated every single moment of these books, Charlotte devoured them with her usual alactrity whilst Thomas read them whenever he could fit a moment into his ridiculously busy social life 🙂

Watch out on Wednesday when I will be sharing about the children’s adventures in London.
